The requirement

Following the devastating Kangaroo Island bushfires, SeaLink required replacement catering and tourism infrastructure to restore essential facilities for its day-trip visitors.

The project required a purpose-built solution capable of supporting the company’s tourism operations, providing a dedicated base for guests and commercial catering facilities for meal preparation and service.

Given the remote island location and the loss of existing infrastructure, the project presented significant design, manufacturing and logistical challenges.

SeaLink needed a reliable, fully operational facility that could be manufactured offsite, transported to Kangaroo Island and installed with minimal onsite construction.

Our solution

Mobile Kitchens designed and constructed a purpose-built modular commercial kitchen and catering facility tailored to SeaLink’s operational requirements.

The facilities were manufactured at Mobile Kitchens’ Brisbane premises, allowing construction and equipment installation to be completed in a controlled environment before mobilisation.

Once completed, the modular facilities were transported from Brisbane to South Australia by rail, then shipped by sea to Kangaroo Island.

Mobile Kitchens managed the delivery, onsite installation and commissioning, providing SeaLink with a fully operational catering facility to support its day-trip tourism operations.

The project demonstrates Mobile Kitchens’ capability to deliver custom-designed modular commercial kitchens and turnkey catering infrastructure for disaster recovery, tourism and remote locations, including design, offsite manufacturing, complex logistics and onsite commissioning.
