The requirement
BHP required additional remote site kitchen capacity at its Mt Keith mining operation in Western Australia to accommodate increasing catering demands from its FIFO workforce.
As workforce requirements increased, the existing commercial kitchen facilities needed additional capacity for food preparation, cooking, cleaning and meal service.
The remote mining location presented logistical and operational challenges, making modular commercial kitchen infrastructure a practical alternative to expanding permanent facilities.
The project required a reliable solution that could:
- Increase commercial food preparation and cooking capacity.
- Support efficient catering operations for FIFO personnel.
- Integrate with existing mine site kitchen facilities.
- Provide additional refrigeration, warewashing and preparation areas.
- Minimise disruption to existing catering operations.
The remote site kitchen solution needed to be practical, reliable and suitable for the demanding conditions of a Western Australian mining operation.
Our solution
Mobile Kitchens supplied more than 10 modular commercial kitchens to expand catering capacity at BHP’s Mt Keith mining operation.
The remote site kitchen solution provided additional facilities for commercial cooking, food preparation, warewashing and refrigerated storage, supporting the mine’s existing food service infrastructure.
By using modular kitchen facilities, BHP could increase catering capacity without relying entirely on permanent building extensions.
The additional commercial kitchens were designed to support efficient meal preparation and food service operations for the site’s growing FIFO workforce.
This project demonstrates Mobile Kitchens’ experience in providing modular commercial kitchen solutions for remote mining operations, workforce accommodation camps and large-scale infrastructure projects throughout Australia.
Our remote site kitchen facilities offer a practical solution for mining companies requiring additional catering capacity in regional and remote locations.
